The Nikoro Incident: Japan’s Bizarre Alien Abduction by a Four-Legged, Octopus-Like Being

While cases like the Kofu Incident are well-known in Japan, another, far stranger event from the 1970s continues to baffle researchers worldwide. Known as the Nikoro Incident, this case from Hokkaido is often cited as one of the most bizarre alien abduction accounts ever recorded. It’s a story that involves a terrifying, four-legged, octopus-like creature, multiple abductions, a trip to Jupiter, and physical evidence that defies easy explanation.
First Encounter: The Knock at the Door
The story began in the pre-dawn hours of April 6, 1974, in a remote farming village near Kitami, Hokkaido. A farmer named Yoshihiro Fujiwara was awakened at 3:00 AM by a loud knocking at his door and the frantic barking of his dog. Living in an isolated area, a visitor at this hour was unthinkable.
Annoyed and half-asleep, Fujiwara opened the door and came face-to-face with a sight that would change his life forever. Standing in the darkness was a small, 1.5-meter (5-foot) tall being clad in a transparent, vinyl-like one-piece suit. Fujiwara would later sketch the entity, revealing a truly shocking figure: a round, octopus-like head encased in a blue, conical helmet with an antenna that crackled with electricity. It had four tentacle-like limbs, slanted eyes, and a V-shaped nose.
For several minutes, the two stared at each other in stunned silence. Then, the being pointed a hand to the sky. A dazzling orange light shot down from an 8-meter (26-foot) wide saucer-shaped craft hovering above. Terrified, Fujiwara scrambled back inside his house.
But it wasn’t over. He felt an invisible force grab his legs, dragging him across the room. His body was then lifted into the air and pulled through the window into the waiting UFO. He later claimed there was no visible entrance; he simply passed through the wall of the craft. Inside, two more of the octopus-like beings were waiting. They telepathically communicated, “There is no danger. We promise to return you home.” Despite these peaceful words, they forcefully restrained him. Fearing for his life, Fujiwara somehow managed to open a hatch and leap out. Fortunately, the craft was only about 3 meters (10 feet) off the ground. He had escaped, finding himself 3 kilometers from his home.

Second Abduction: A Trip to the Moon
The ordeal continued. On the evening of April 8, Fujiwara was struck by a severe headache. In a daze, he began to write strange, cuneiform-like characters on a piece of paper—what he believed to be the aliens’ language. Then, a voice echoed in his mind: “When the saucer comes to the mountain, come by yourself and board.”
Convinced the voice meant Mount Nikoro, he set off with a friend. Leaving his friend behind, he proceeded alone and found the saucer waiting for him. This time, he boarded willingly. He was taken on a two-lap tour of the Moon, a journey that lasted about an hour, before being returned to Earth, where he was found unconscious in the snow. His friend later testified to seeing a strange UFO moving erratically in the sky and finding Fujiwara’s footprints mysteriously ending at the edge of a cliff. During this second abduction, Fujiwara claimed that devices were implanted in his earlobes, allowing him to communicate telepathically with the beings.

Third Abduction: Jupiter, Titan, and a Souvenir Rock
On April 13, Fujiwara was “invited” on a third and final trip. This time, the destination was Jupiter and its moon, Titan. He described landing on Jupiter on a rubber-like material. He claimed that during this journey, he was gifted with psychic abilities, including psychokinesis, clairvoyance, and the power to teleport. As proof of his journey, he brought back a rock, which he claimed was from either Jupiter or Titan.
Fujiwara later revealed what he had learned about his abductors. They were members of a “Galactic Federation of the Summoncole,” whose purpose was to prevent natural disasters on Earth, such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. He also claimed that three of their UFOs were hidden behind a barrier in the Hidaka Mountains.
While the story sounds fantastical, it’s supported by a crucial piece of corroborating evidence: several local residents reported seeing strange lights in the sky at the exact times of Fujiwara’s alleged abductions. Was Yoshihiro Fujiwara’s incredible journey real? The Nikoro Incident remains one of the most detailed, bizarre, and thought-provoking cases in the annals of UFO history, a story that pushes the boundaries of what we believe is possible.
