The Ghost in the Stream: How a YouTuber’s Livestream Was Haunted by a Mysterious Face

In the unpredictable world of live streaming, anything can happen—technical glitches, unexpected donations, and sometimes, something far stranger. Back on May 17, 2023, popular Japanese-American YouTuber Kson was hosting a celebratory stream when her broadcast was interrupted by an uninvited guest: a ghostly, mask-like face that materialized on the wall behind her, turning a fun gaming session into a viral paranormal event.
The Unboxing Takes a Terrifying Turn
Kson, a bilingual streamer known for her high-energy personality and connection to the Yakuza (now Like a Dragon) game series, was unboxing the limited “Ishin BOX” edition of the then-newly released Like a Dragon: Ishin! The mood was lighthearted and fun. She marveled at the large box with her viewers, playfully donned the included Shinsengumi-style haori jacket, and posed with the replica sword.
Then, the celebratory mood suddenly shattered. A strange, shadowy shape began to form on the blank white wall behind her. It was a faint, mask-like visage, with hollow eyes and a half-open mouth, hanging silently in the background.

Kson herself was the first to notice. Her playful demeanor shifted to confused alarm as she pointed at the wall. “Wait, isn’t there a face appearing here?!” she asked her audience, bewildered. Her chat immediately exploded with comments ranging from terrified to thrilled: “That’s so scary,” “Did this just become a paranormal stream?” and “Please stop, this is genuinely terrifying lol.”
Ghostly Glitch or Genuine Ghost?
The “ghost face” remained on screen for a significant portion of the stream, seemingly moving in tandem with the camera. After the broadcast ended, the clip went viral on social media, with viewers debating its origin. “Seriously, what is this?” one user asked, while another commented, “It’s so clear it’s almost funny… but what IS that face?”
So, what was it? The most plausible explanation points to a technical phenomenon known as image burn-in or “ghosting.” A moment earlier in the stream, at approximately the 35:55 mark, the broadcast briefly froze. It’s highly likely that this glitch caused a faint, semi-transparent impression of Kson’s own face to be temporarily “burned” onto the camera’s sensor. This ghostly afterimage was then overlaid on the live footage, creating the unnerving effect of a face on the wall.
A Fearless Streamer and a Modern Legend
While the technical explanation is sound, what truly cemented the event in internet legend was Kson’s reaction. Instead of panicking, she approached the phenomenon with a mixture of fear and bold curiosity. She repeatedly touched and slapped the wall where the face appeared, much to the amusement and awe of her viewers.
Comments poured in, saying things like, “I’m scared, but Kson, who’s just touching the haunted wall, is even scarier!” and “She has nerves of steel.” This fearless, almost confrontational response transformed a potentially terrifying haunting into a uniquely entertaining and memorable moment. It became the “scary but not scary” ghost video, a classic “haunted livestream” moment.
Eventually, the ghostly image faded, and the stream returned to normal. But the legend of the Kson ghost face lives on, a perfect example of how, in the digital age, a simple technical glitch can create a modern-day ghost story. It makes you wonder—what might be lurking, unseen, in the background of your favorite streamer’s broadcast?
